Occupational Therapy
At Lighthouse Therapy Services, occupational therapy supports children, teens, and young adults in developing the skills they need to participate fully in daily life. Our therapists provide individualized interventions that help clients build independence, confidence, and competence at home, school, and in the community.
More Information
For children (Birth–12): Occupational therapy focuses on building foundational skills such as play, fine motor coordination for school activities, and basic life skills like dressing, bathing, and feeding. Therapy also helps children develop problem-solving, attention, and self-regulation skills that support learning and social participation.
For adolescents and young adults (ages 13–21): Therapy targets executive function, organizational skills, daily living routines, and more complex life skills to prepare teens and young adults for independence, as well as success in school or work, and confident engagement in their communities.
Caregiver involvement: Families are an essential part of therapy. Therapists provide guidance and strategies to reinforce skills at home, support progress, and create an environment that encourages ongoing growth and development.
Occupational Therapy can help with...
-
Sensory processing: Helps with sensitivity to sounds and textures, or movement seeking to increase attention.
-
Fine motor: Grasping objects, buttoning, and drawing to be able to play at home, dress with independence, and participate better at school.
-
Handwriting: Through a tailored plan, the therapist helps your child increase their legibility and accuracy in handwriting.
-
Self-care: Helping children learn the skills they need to be more independent. From dressing, self feeding, to even skills for chores like simple cooking and cleaning.
-
Feeding: Picky eaters and those with food avoidance. Using play-based activities to increase our engagement with different foods, to add them at meal times.
-
Play & socialization: By working on various skills, it can increase your child’s confidence to participate with peers and grow their connections
CLASI Certified
An Evidence Based approach to Sensory Processing
CLASI is based on the work of Dr. Jean Ayers, backed by 60 years of research.
At Lighthouse Therapy Services, our CLASI Certified OT is able to provide thorough assessment and targeted interventions to integrate the sensory systems. This allows us to target areas of concern, with specific evidence and confidence to get to the "root" of the problem.
